We have been awarded Training Status

Posted: 25 August 2016

Chesterfield Medical Partnership is committed to providing an environment for learning and personal development..

We are very happy to announce that we have recently been awarded training status. Being a training practice means that we have met the rigorous required standards to provide training for future General Practitioners. Dr Joshi is our approved GP trainer working with the Chesterfield GP Specialty Training Programe which is linked to the East Midlands Deanery.

Later this year we will start having qualified doctors placed in surgery who are working under supervision of the GPs with the aim of specialising in General Practice as their future medical career. They are called GP Registrars and they will be a very welcome and valued addition to our medical team.

Training offers significant benefits to the doctors, staff and patients of the surgery. For the doctors and staff there is the regular influx of young doctors with fresh ideas and renewed enthusiasm for medicine. For the patients the presence of additional doctors who are completing their GP training offers easier access to appointments.

An essential component of training in all medical practice is the use of video and joint consultations. We hope that all our patients will be willing to take part in these educational surgeries to help us all in improving and maintaining our medical and consultation skills. All video recordings are strictly confidential and are used for teaching only.

If you feel uncomfortable about this, please inform the receptionist who can arrange for you to be seen alone.

Cricket Review 2016

Chesterfield and North Derby’s Royal Hospital Consultants v NE Derby’s GPs

Travelling from Chesterfield to Baslow in torrential rain on Sunday 12th June, many of us held little hope for a match let alone a 30 over per team event.

On arrival the teams got organised (a tricky time for the GP’s who initially only had 10 players), padded up and the customary photos were taken. It was decided to reduce the match length by 5 overs each just in case the rain returned.

Team Photo Shoot

The minute the teams got out on the pitch the heavens opened once again, so back to the pavilion everyone came before a ball was bowled, but happily only for a brief spell when the rain went not to return that day.

A great time was had by all – I strongly recommend you don’t miss it next year!

Keep Sunday June 11 2017 clear in your diary.

School Age Children’s Vaccinations

Posted: 15 February 2016

Public Health arm of NHS England has decided that it is more effective and efficient for school age children to receive all their immunisations at school from a single organisation and that all queries about such immunisations should be directed to the NHS England school immunisations team on 01283 707170 as GP practices are no longer involved in this aspect of healthcare.

We are able to provide a vaccination and allergies print out at a cost of £5, or we can pass the form that school might have given you regarding medical information to a GP to process at a cost of £10 however this will take up to 24 working days.

If you have your child’s red book up to date, this will contain vaccination information.

Public Consultation Meetings

Posted: 2 February 2016

We have held three public consultation meetings to discuss proposed changes to the opening hours at our Old Whittington and Holme Hall sites. The next step in the eight week consultation period is to formally consult staff and further update our Patient Participation Group.

After this we will collate all the feedback we have received and present this in a document to NHS England, the CCG and patients.

Calling all Knitters

We are hoping that volunteers will come forward to put their knitting or crochet skills to good use to help us to create Twiddlemuffs as part of our dementia awareness work. The soft knitted muffs contain strands of textured ribbons, beads and various fabrics attached both inside and outside.

This is a national project and we would like to give our support across Derbyshire and we would love to have your help.

Please download this leaflet for more information:

Staff Training:

Posted: 4 January 2016

You may be aware that we close one afternoon per month for staff training. This enables us to review our systems and also your comments. It also gives us the opportunity to update our skills and add new ones.

Through this we have undertaken:

  • Autism Awareness training to help us understand our patients who are on the Autism Spectrum.
  • Dementia Awareness training. You may notice that most of our staff wear a Dementia Friend pin, this means they should be more aware of the needs of our patients who have, or who care for, those with dementia.
